International Court of Justice

The ICJ was then formally established in June 1945 by the Charter of the United Nations, beginning its work in April 1946 and succeeding the PCIJ. The ICJ's jurisdiction is limited to disputes between states willing to accept its authority on matters of international law. Its decisions are binding, but it has no enforcement power; appeals must be made to the UN Security Council
